1962 Mercury Full-Sizes

Still wondering where it exactly stands, Mercury reorganizes its range of full-size automobiles once again this year. The Meteor name being now used on the company’s new intermediate car, all full-sizes are now more luxurious Montereys. Topping the range from the middle of the year is a new S-55, with boldly stated performance ambitions. Furthermore, a powerful “Marauder 406” 6.7-litre engine is now available as an option, but only on a (very) limited basis. Finally, all automatic transmissions fitted to full-size Mercurys this year are Multi-Drive, after the discontinuation of the Merc-O-Matic.

Mercury's 1962 range includes four lines: Mercury Monterey, Mercury Monterey Custom, Mercury Monterey S-55 (added during the model year) and a line of station wagons that includes the Mercury Commuter and the Mercury Colony Park.

Mercury Monterey
This year’s Monterey has been mostly revised at the rear over last year’s model. Long, protruding taillights mounted at the end of the fins replace the six-light elements seen in 1961. All Mercurys also ride closer to the road this year.
