1965 Mercury Full-Sizes

After four years, the slightly-smaller-than-full-size Mercurys retire, and their successors grow larger again. They are now built on a much longer chassis, and graced by the formal elegance of their new bodies. Another improvement comes from the coil suspension on all four wheels, which makes a new Mercury’s ride extremely smooth and comfortable.

Mercury Monterey
The style of the brand-new Monterey is angular, and clearly related to the Lincoln Continental - the connection is heavily exploited by Mercury advertisements this year. It indeed includes such details as edged front and rear wings, a bulged bonnet and a protruding grille centre. No less than six models are included in the Monterey’s range, though the original Breezeway is now limited to a single sedan and supplemented by more classical models.

Mercury Commuter
While all other Mercurys ride on an extended chassis this year, the Commuter, the station wagon version of the Monterey, has to content itself with a shorter platform borrowed from the Fords.

Mercury Park Lane
The Park Lane is a posh version of the lesser Monterey and Montclair, loaded with chrome and powered by the 300 hp version of the “390” V-8.

Mercury Colony Park
The Colony Park station wagon is a spacious and well-appointed vehicle that can be distinguished by its side woodgrain panels.
