1976 Mitsubishi Lancer and Celeste

The “Neptune” 1.2-litre four that equips the base Lancer saloons is replaced in October 1975 by a version of the “Saturn” offering a similar displacement, but ten more horsepower. “Van” estates retain their older “Neptune” ones. During the following month, all Lancers and Celestes adopts low-emission “MCA” (Mitsubishi Clean Air) versions of their engines in order to comply with the stricter emission standards now enforced in Japan.


Mitsubishi Lancer 1200
While the “EL” is a simplified version of the 1200, the “GL” enjoys a better equipment that includes front disc brakes and a five-speed gearbox.

On “Van” estates: inline four, 1.2-litre, 70 hp standard. Transmission: to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. Five-speed manual gearbox optional. Mitsubishi Lancer 1400
The Lancer 1400 is available in three different trims: “EL” (drum brakes and four-speed), “GL” (front disc brakes, automatic transmission optional), and “SL-5” (front disc brakes, five-speed manual transmission exclusively). The latter also receives a three-spoke steering wheel, fog lights and a leather upholstery.

Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSL
The “1600 GSL” is the performance version of the Lancer, fitted with a powerful 1.6-litre “Saturn engine”.

Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR
The GSR is the street version of the car Mitsubishi’s works team enters in selected events of the World’s Rally Championship.
