From August 1968, the DAF 55 is available as an estate, while the basic 44 becomes the Comfort, a replacement for the Standaard.
Later during January 1965, a “Marathon” performance kit is offered for installation by DAF dealers, its name chosen to honour DAF’s good performance in last year’s gruesome London-Sydney Marathon. This kit comprises a modified engine boosted to 65 bhp, new central exhaust pipe, modified rear suspension from improved handling, light alloy wheels and a tachometer.
