Comes 1976 and, for the first time since the launch of this particular generation of full-size Mercurys, virtually no change can help distinguish them from their predecessors from 1975.
Mercury's 1976 full-size range includes four lines: Mercury Marquis, Mercury Marquis Brougham, Mercury Grand Marquis and a separate Mercury Marquis Colony Park.
Mercury Marquis
This year’s Marquis is virtually a carryover from 1975. The big Mercury are still divided into three lines, plus a distinct Colony Park. Adjusting to the present crisis, Mercury now proposes the smaller - that is, only comparatively - 6.6-litre engine as standard throughout the range.
● Introduction: 1972. Construction: body on separate chassis. Engine: water-cooled V-8, 6.6-litre, 180 hp, mounted at the front. Optional engine: V-8, 7.5-litre, 202 hp. Transmission: to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic gearbox. Suspension: independent at the front, rigid axle at the rear. Brakes: hydraulic, to disk on front wheels, drums on rear wheels, with servo. Disk brakes on all four wheels optional. Length: 580 cm (station wagon), 582 cm (coupe and sedan). Top speed: 180 kph. Range: four-door pillared hardtop sedan, two-door hardtop coupe, four-door station wagon.
Mercury Marquis Brougham
A tasteful yet cheaper alternative to the expensive Lincoln Continental, the Marquis Brougham adds to the Marquis’ standard equipment such niceties as a vinyl roof, power windows, rear fender skirts and an electric clock.

Mercury Marquis Colony Park
Mercury’s most luxurious station wagon is the Colony Park, which enjoys equipment similar to that found in the Marquis Brougham. Nevertheless, it remains very close to Ford’s station wagons, except for the Mercury front end grafted onto it.

The Grand Marquis is Mercury’s most prestigious model. Tinted glass and lounge seats with dual armrests in leather or combined leather-velour are all standard.
