1977 Mercury Full-Sizes

Who said the 1977 models didn't change? Though I'd like a confirmation - I never read it anywhere - it seems the radio antenna was switched from the front left fender to the rear right fender... Well, not much of a change, really.

Mercury's 1977 full-size range includes three lines: Mercury Marquis, Mercury Marquis Brougham and Mercury Grand Marquis.

Mercury Marquis
Despite the fact that its archrival General Motors has downsized its upper range of automobiles this year, Ford stubbornly carries on, bragging about the supposed advantages of its larger cars in a series of advertisements. Otherwise, the Marquis remains roughly similar to last year’s car, apart from a slightly improved 6.6-litre “400” engine and an updated choice of paints and fabrics.

Mercury Marquis Brougham
A tasteful yet cheaper alternative to the expensive Lincoln Continental, the Marquis Brougham adds to the Marquis’ standard equipment such niceties as a vinyl roof, power windows, rear fender skirts and an electric clock. This year sees the disappearance of the Colony Park station wagon as a distinct model, replaced by a simple option on the base Marquis wagon.

Mercury Grand Marquis
The Grand Marquis is Mercury’s most prestigious model. A large 7.5-litre engine, tinted glass and lounge seats with dual armrests in leather or combined leather-velour are all standard.

  1. When cars were American full size highway cruisers, not the euro-clones of today.
