1951 Lincoln Full-Sizes

Again, all Lincolns receive a modified grille and redesigned rear wings, but remain on the whole similar to last year’s models. Despite Ford now having an automatic transmission of its own, Lincolns continue to be fitted with rival GM’s Hydra-Matic, the only one able to withstand the huge torque of the brand’s big V-8.

Lincoln
Simply called “Lincoln”, the base model features rear “suicide” doors on the sedan, and retains a split windshield.

Lincoln Lido
Last year, Lincoln has added this Lido coupe to its range, a luxurious version of the base model that is easily recognizable thanks to the exclusive treatment of its roof. This is nevertheless insufficient to make forget that Ford does not have a real hardtop coupe to compete by General Motors.

Lincoln Cosmopolitan
All Cosmopolitan enjoy a single-piece windshield, and some rare equipments such as power windows and power seats. Sedan uses a six-window body (unlike the base Lincoln’s four-window one), but the Cosmopolitan now loses its distinctive large chromed decoration on the front wings.

The Capri is for the Cosmopolitan what the Lido is for the base Lincoln: a plusher variant of the coupe identified thanks to its fabric- or vinyl-covered roof.
